Updated In May, 2012 - As of June 1st, 2011, Bodog Poker will no longer accept players from the USA. They have officially requested that affiliates pass along this message. This sad news comes shortly after they shutdown Bodog.com and started using Bodog.eu. As a long-time Bodog player I am greatly saddened by this news. Where will I play now? Where will you play now? That is what everyone is asking these days. There was some good news that followed Bodog's announcement. Lock Poker, a newer poker room with huge backing, has announced that it is "Business as usual" and that they do not plan on shutting down for any reason. Lock Poker's traffic has spiked in the last month with many refugees coming from PS, FTP, AP, UB and now Bodog. Here is a brief look at Lock Poker:
Updated In May, 2012 - You may be wondering why the top 4 largest US poker rooms were shutdown and Bodog Poker was not. There is a rumor going around that Bodog Poker is closed. That is a lie. Players act like women on online poker forums and misinformation has been running rampant ever since the big poker shutdown of April, 2011. A Bodog Poker shutdown may not be impossible but is the U.S. government wanted to do it they could have. So why hasn't Bodog Poker been shut down? I think the answer to that is their banking practices. The Poker Stars shutdown, Fulltilt shutdown, Absolute Poker shut down and UB.com shutdown happened because they were cutting corners when it comes to banking procedures. That was the main legal reason anyway. There are plenty of other reasons like government corruption and such but banking issues were the main factor. Bodog is not closed because they follow all U.S. and international laws.
When the DOJ sees that Bodog Poker has picked up many of the players booted off of Pokerstars and the other rooms they may take a closer look. Will Bodog get shut down eventually? Only time will tell but the DOJ has been hounding Pokerstars and Full Tilt Poker for over 5 years so it will likely take at least 2-3 years before they can move against Bodog, if they even want to in the first place.
Bodog Poker offers one of the best bonuses around. They will give you up to $100 instantly when you make your first deposit at Bodog. That is not all though. You will also receive up to $1,000 in bonus money. You can use the instant cash credit to clear your bonus money so that makes things even better. Our players will also get a ticket to a $100,000 GTD tournament. Check out the 2011 Bodog Poker review below for more info.
There are few solid alternatives to Bodog Poker. The only one I am comfortable suggesting is Lock Poker. You probably never heard of them but they are a big room with a big budget. They have world famous pro's and great promotions. Lock Poker continues to accept US players and was not effected in the least bit by the poker room shutdowns. We are offering 35% rakeback and a 200% match bonus up to $1,200 at Lock Poker. Read the review for more info.
